- Provide professional training opportunities (shadow) for professional colleagues who possess recognized professional qualifications such as ACA, CPA, ACCA, etc.
- Assist our member-colleague by providing support during their relocation and/or migration into the United States.
- Offer employment opportunities to professional colleagues who possess adequate proficiencies through or outside of the shadow program, in related areas, i.e., accounting, auditing, taxation, finance, management, etc., based on the requirements of the participating firm.
How It Works
- The District Society shall solicit and enlist member firms and any other accounting and/or non-accounting firms willing to participate in the PASS program both in the United States and Nigeria.
- Interested MEMBER residing or relocating to the United States may apply through the membership or PTC committee, indicating the intention to participate in the PASS program. Also, an Interested MEMBER residing or relocating to Nigeria may apply through the membership or PTC committee (or ICAN-HQ if in partnership with us), indicating the intention to participate in the PASS program.
- The PTC shall review the profile and resume of each applicant alongside existing openings with participating member firms.
- The profile and/or resume of the shortlisted MEMBER shall be sent to the participating member firm for final review and approval.
- Upon placement, the membership monitors progress and attends to MEMBER inquiries during the program.
- Upon completion of the program, a certificate of participation shall be issued to the MEMBER while a certificate/letter of appreciation is sent to the participating firm.
Collaborations
The PTC shall collaborate with both the members’ services and the communications directorate with the goals of sensitizing our members and keeping them abreast with the new professional initiatives.
Most importantly, the membership committee shall play a vital role in ensuring that the members that need placement in the SHADOW program are effectively placed with participating member firms.
Pilot Run
ICAN-USA District Society desires to make both the FATS and PASS program a permanent faculty that will serve our members for many years to come.
However, as a start, the two programs will be implemented on a pilot basis to fully evaluate the success and value-added impact the programs will have on our membership.
The programs may be discontinued after two years of implementation if the board of directors has determined that the program objectives have either not been met or outlined subject objectives are not easily realizable on a cost-effective basis.
Permanency
If the pilot runs of either or both the FATS and PASS programs prove successful, the BOD of ICAN-USA may decide to make the programs permanent upon the approval of the members at an AGM.
National Program
Upon successful implementation of the FATS and PASS programs at the ICAN-USA district level, it will be desirable to explore the opportunity to implement the same or similar programs through ICAN HQ on a national scale in Nigeria.
No doubt, implementing the FATS and PASS programs on a national scale in Nigeria, will give ICAN desirable professional prominence as a proactive professional institute.
Conclusion
While the FATS and PASS programs are not intended to provide mandatory employment to the student and professional participants, it is the hope and desire of the ICAN-USA district that the interactions between the student and professional interns lead to a job opportunity for the participants, and at the same time, a measurable added value to participating firms.
Also, the district society (ICAN-USA) hopes that the new initiatives will encourage members’ participation, and most importantly add measurable professional experience and values to our members.
